Ahead of the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game between the U.S. and Canada, Evgeni Malkin shared his thoughts on Mike Sullivan, who was coaching Team USA. "Because he loves hockey," Malkin said. "We know he cares about the team. He cares about every player. Six or 7 AM every day, he's in the office. He's watching video, he's talking to other coaches. He's trying to control everything. He loves hockey so much. He deserves everything. He wins two Cups. Maybe he wins and represents his country."

When asked to choose between his coach or captain for victory, Malkin sided with Sidney Crosby: "I know Sid and Sully, it's hard choice. But I think Canada will win." Malkin's prediction proved accurate as Canada defeated the United States in overtime, 3-2, at Boston’s TD Garden on Thursday, with Connor McDavid scoring the decisive goal.

"Every opportunity you get to wear the Canadian jersey and compete in this event, it's something new, but I think you saw the hockey that was on display. It was pretty incredible," Crosby said after the match. "Just happy for this group. We came together in a short period of time and found a way to get it done."

Crosby was notable throughout the tournament at age 37, tying for second in points with one goal and four assists over four games. His enthusiasm remains strong: "and getting an opportunity to play with these guys – how can you not be motivated by that?" Crosby remarked.

With this victory, Crosby adds another title to his international achievements ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. His record includes gold medals from past Olympic Games and various international championships.

Jason Spezza, Penguins assistant general manager and former teammate of Crosby's during a World Championship win, praised him: "I think it's a special quality that he has that not many people I've been around have," Spezza said.

Kyle Dubas also acknowledged Crosby's influence since becoming Penguins President of Hockey Operations and GM while serving as Team Canada's director of player personnel at 4 Nations.

Mike Sullivan expressed admiration for Crosby despite being on opposing sides: “These best-on-best tournaments bring out the best of the best,” Sullivan stated regarding their competitive nature.

Sullivan led Team USA to an earlier victory against Canada during round-robin play but recognized the broader excitement generated by such events: “And the commitment...has been an unbelievable celebration of hockey.”
