The Pittsburgh Penguins have made a trade with the St. Louis Blues, acquiring forward Mathias Laferriere in exchange for Corey Andonovski. This transaction was confirmed by Kyle Dubas, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager of the Penguins.
Mathias Laferriere, aged 24, is under contract through the 2024-25 season with an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level. He will join the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 181 pounds, Laferriere has played 33 games this season with the Springfield Thunderbirds in the AHL, scoring two goals and providing eight assists for a total of ten points. Over his four-year professional career with Springfield, he has accumulated 21 goals and 49 assists across 207 AHL games.
Before turning professional, Laferriere spent five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) from 2016 to 2021 with Cape Breton and Blainville-Boisbriand. In his junior career spanning 238 games, he recorded a total of 82 goals and 132 assists.
Laferriere was initially selected by St. Louis in the sixth round as the 169th overall pick during the 2018 NHL Draft.
