AHN Saint Vincent is set to commemorate its 150th anniversary in 2025 with a series of events throughout the year. The celebrations will honor the hospital's history and dedication to the Erie community, featuring initiatives for both the public and hospital staff.
Hospital personnel, local officials, and representatives from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwest Pennsylvania gathered in the hospital lobby wearing special anniversary t-shirts to announce details of the observance. A commemorative group photo was taken with employees forming a giant "150."
Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania, Saint Vincent Hospital opened on September 5, 1875. Initially a three-story facility with 12 beds, it cost $7,000 to build and was Erie’s first medical institution open to all.
“AHN Saint Vincent has been a vital part of the Erie community for generations," stated Dr. Chris Clark, AHN Saint Vincent President. "This anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on our past achievements and look forward to the future of healthcare in Erie."
The celebration will include various activities involving both staff and the broader community. Key public events are planned as follows:
- March 16: Participation in St. Patrick’s Day Parade
- April 25: Gala at Bayfront Convention Center
- May 7: Joint Mass at SSJ Sister House
- May 9-10: Nursing Class Reunions
- July 12: Free Community Summer Carnival
- August 15: Retiree Brunch at JPT center
- August 15-17: Special activities during Celebrate Erie
- September 5: Public exhibit at Hagen History Center
