The Pittsburgh Steelers have made changes to their practice squad, signing receiver Jamal Agnew and running back Jonathan Ward. To make room for the new additions, the team released offensive lineman John Leglue and receiver Lance McCutcheon.
Jamal Agnew is set to begin his eighth season in the NFL. Throughout his career, he has played in 77 games, recording 77 receptions for 746 yards with an average of 9.7 yards per catch and five touchdowns. Agnew was initially drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, where he spent four seasons and caught 16 passes for 105 yards. In 2021, he joined the Jacksonville Jaguars and over three seasons made 61 receptions totaling 641 yards with five touchdowns.
Jonathan Ward has been part of both practice squads and active rosters this season. He has participated in four games, carrying the ball five times for a total of 22 yards. After attending a tryout at the Steelers rookie minicamp, Ward was signed by the team. Over his five-year NFL career, Ward has appeared in 47 games with a record of carrying the ball 22 times for 91 yards (averaging 4.1 yards per carry) along with six receptions for a total of 52 yards (averaging an impressive eight-point-seven-yard per reception) and one touchdown.
Ward entered professional football as an undrafted free agent when he signed with the Arizona Cardinals following the conclusion of the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent more than two seasons with them before joining Tennessee Titans during their run in late-2022 through all-of-2023 campaign periods too; while playing college-level matches at Central Michigan University himself – appearing across forty-two different encounters thereupon accumulating two-thousand-five-hundred-thirty-nine rushing-yards alongside twenty-eight touchdowns whilst also managing ninety-eight catches yielding nine-hundred-nine receiving-yards plus four additional scores overall.
