Newly acquired receiver Mike Williams has been named the winner of the 2024 NFL Way to Play Award for Week 10. The award, now in its seventh year, honors NFL players who demonstrate proper technique in making impactful plays.
Williams was recognized for his game-winning 32-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Russell Wilson. This decisive play occurred with just 2:27 remaining in the game and secured a narrow 28-27 victory for the Steelers over the Washington Commanders. Notably, it was the only pass thrown to Williams during the entire game.
"You've got to love clutch moments," said Wilson. "When you've got guys that can make plays and do things for you, first of all, Big Mike over there, just traded for him. He's a tremendous football player."
Wilson praised Williams' ability to perform under pressure despite not having practiced the specific route he ran on the touchdown catch. "I didn't run it one time," admitted Williams.
The NFL Way to Play Award emphasizes player safety and showcases how significant plays can be achieved using correct techniques. Troy Vincent, NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations, stated that "through the award, football players and fans from around the world can see real-time examples of excellent football fundamentals and skill development."
As part of his recognition, Williams will receive a $5,000 equipment grant through USA Football to benefit a local youth or high school football program of his choice.
