Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Cory Trice Jr. has been honored as the team's 2024 Ed Block Courage Award recipient. This award recognizes players who demonstrate sportsmanship and courage, selected by a vote of their teammates.
"It's special to win something like this," said Trice. "But going through what I did wasn't as bad as what most people on the outside think and what it looked like to them. I was just so focused the whole time on making sure when I came back, I was going to make plays and show them that I belong."
Trice's career has been marked by repeated injuries during both his collegiate years at Purdue and his professional tenure with the Steelers. Despite setbacks, he achieved 106 tackles, five interceptions, and two touchdowns at Purdue before being drafted in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft by Pittsburgh.
In his rookie year, Trice suffered an ACL tear during Training Camp but made a return in 2024, contributing two tackles, one pass breakup, and an interception in a game against Denver before sustaining another injury against L.A. Chargers.
The Ed Block Courage Award honors players from each NFL team who exemplify dedication to sportsmanship and courage since its inception in 1984. The award is named after Ed Block, a long-time head athletic trainer for the Baltimore Colts.
