The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering the second half of their season with a 6-2 record and a relatively healthy roster. Coach Mike Tomlin noted that the bye week has allowed several players to recover from injuries as they prepare to face the Washington Commanders.

"It was also a good week for those who are leaking a little bit or lack 100% health to regain some of that and get on a moving train," said Tomlin. "We've got a lot of guys who've been out who have a chance this week. We'll be watching their participation on a variety of levels to determine whether or not they'll be included."

Center Zach Frazier, running back/returner Cordarrelle Patterson, and outside linebacker Nick Herbig may return this week. Frazier missed two games due to an ankle injury, while Herbig was sidelined for three games with a hamstring issue. Patterson has been absent for four games because of an ankle injury. Both Frazier and Patterson participated fully in practice on Wednesday, whereas Herbig's participation was limited.

Tomlin also mentioned the potential return of linebacker Tyler Matakevich and cornerback Cory Trice Jr., both currently on the Reserve/Injured List. Matakevich resumed practice on October 24, giving the team a 21-day window to activate him, and he was fully involved in practice on Wednesday.

"All of those guys who have been out in recent weeks, and in some cases an extended period of time, [are] on the cusp of it," said Tomlin. "We'll see where their participation leads us and what roles we might carve out for them."

In addition, receiver Ben Skowronek returned to practice but remains on the Reserve/Injured List. The Steelers have 21 days to activate him or he will stay on the list for the rest of the year.

Skowronek began his career with the Los Angeles Rams after being drafted in 2021 before being traded to the Houston Texans this offseason.
