Leapfrog Top Safety Grade Awarded to 12 UPMC Hospitals

This fall, 12 UPMC hospitals received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade, the highest achievable safety mark, from The Leapfrog Group, a national organization that aims to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers.“

Nurses, physicians and staff members from across our health system, like others nationwide, continue to face unprecedented challenges in an environment forever changed by the pandemic. Through it all, our teams remain dedicated to providing the highest quality care with the safest and best patient experience,” said Tami Minnier, UPMC’s chief quality and operational excellence officer. “These top marks from The Leapfrog Group recognize our efforts and the superior level of care our patients expect from UPMC hospitals.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization with a 10-year history of assigning letter grades to general hospitals throughout the United States, based on a hospital’s ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Hospital Safety Grade results are based on more than 30 national performance measures and are updated each fall and spring.
