On April 19, 1998, the Pittsburgh Steelers found success in the NFL Draft by selecting two future Hall of Fame candidates. The team picked guard Alan Faneca in the first round and wide receiver Hines Ward in the third round. Both players have since become integral parts of the Steelers' history.

Alan Faneca, now enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Steelers Hall of Honor, was a key player for the team over ten seasons. Faneca, recognized as a first-team All-Pro six times and a second-team selection twice, showcased exceptional skill as an offensive lineman. Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis praised Faneca saying, "His ability to play that position, dominate at that position, but be athletic enough to move around and travel from the standpoint of pulling as an offensive lineman was rare." Faneca's contributions helped the Steelers secure four division titles, a Super Bowl XL Championship, and multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

Hines Ward, a Hall of Fame semifinalist for nine consecutive years, played 14 seasons with the Steelers. He recorded 1,000 receptions for 12,083 yards and 85 touchdowns, demonstrating his versatility not only through receiving but also as a proficient blocker. Bettis commented on Ward's skills: "He was able to impact the line of scrimmage. That's what Hines Ward was able to do. He was able to block at the point of contact, which you never see happen as a wide receiver." Ward earned the MVP in Super Bowl XL and was celebrated for his leadership and skill, earning selection to four Pro Bowls and being named the Steelers MVP three times by his teammates.

Both players left a lasting impact on the Steelers, contributing significantly to the team's success during their careers.
