Kris Letang undergoes surgery for heart defect, recovery expected in four to six weeks

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang recently underwent a successful medical procedure. Today, the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas disclosed details of the surgery.

Letang had a patent foramen ovale (PFO), described as a small hole in the heart, successfully closed. The surgery took place at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, performed by interventional cardiologist Dr. Conrad Smith.

According to the announcement, Letang's expected recovery time is estimated to be four to six weeks.
