The Pittsburgh Steelers, with only Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson as quarterbacks on their current roster, are exploring various options to fill this pivotal position. During the annual NFL meeting at The Breakers in West Palm Beach, Florida, head coach Mike Tomlin stated that the team is open to acquiring a quarterback through free agency or the draft. "We're still evaluating the acquisition of a guy at that position, whether it's free agency and/or the draft, and so we're doing our due diligence, communicating with some free agents, also preparing for the Draft," he said.

Tomlin and General Manager Omar Khan recently visited Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Texas as part of their search for a draft-eligible quarterback. Despite the ongoing evaluation, Tomlin has no specific preference for the new quarterback's source or background.

The Steelers' quarterback roster will differ in 2025 compared to 2024, which included Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen. Discussing the team's strategy, Tomlin remarked, "Oftentimes, I say 'two is a pattern.' It's a cliche that I use in coaching, but I don't know that I'm alarmed by that as it pertains to this discussion."

Aaron Rodgers, the veteran quarterback who last played for the Jets, was recently brought in for a visit. Tomlin emphasized that they are in no rush to decide on Rodgers' potential role. "I don't know that we've approached it from a deadline perspective," he stated.

During the offseason, the Steelers finalized several key acquisitions, including a trade for wide receiver DK Metcalf by giving up a second-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks. Tomlin believes Metcalf's addition will greatly enhance the team's offense, saying, "DK is an awesome talent, one that we're familiar with."

With the draft approaching, Tomlin sees potential in new prospects. "There's a lot of talent in that group," he commented, noting the depth of the upcoming draft at the running back position. This comes after the departure of running back Najee Harris in free agency, with hopes pinned on Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell as contributors in 2025.

As the Steelers aim to strengthen their team for the 2025 season, the combination of free agency and the draft will be integral components in their team-building strategy. Tomlin concluded, "It's our goal and job to build as strong of a team as we can for 2025."
