Penguins extend Ryan Shea's contract through the next season

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the re-signing of defenseman Ryan Shea to a one-year contract extension. This agreement, disclosed by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas, will keep Shea with the team through the 2025-26 season. The contract is valued at an average annual amount of $900,000.

Ryan Shea, aged 28, has participated in 28 games for Pittsburgh this season. He has achieved career highs with two goals, three assists, and five points. Notably, he recorded his first two-goal game on February 23 against the New York Rangers and logged a career-high 23:48 minutes on March 2 against Toronto.

Over his NHL career, Shea has played in 59 games, all with Pittsburgh over the last two seasons. During this time, he has accumulated three goals and three assists for a total of six points.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 200 pounds, Shea has also played in 186 American Hockey League games between the Texas Stars and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In these appearances, he has amassed a total of 72 points from 12 goals and 60 assists.

Hailing from Milton, Massachusetts, Shea spent four seasons (2016-20) playing for Northeastern University in the NCAA. Originally drafted by Chicago in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, he continues to develop his professional hockey career with Pittsburgh.
