Connor Dewar and Conor Timmins, formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs, are embracing their new roles with the Pittsburgh Penguins after being traded at the deadline. The trade was confirmed during a practice session in Denver when both players were informed via speakerphone by their general manager.
Timmins expressed relief at having Dewar join him in Pittsburgh, stating, “Obviously, I'm great friends with Dew and we played together last year in Toronto and this year. So, to have him here and just have a familiar face in the room, it's really nice.”
Timmins is also reconnecting with Kyle Dubas, Penguins President of Hockey Operations and GM. Their relationship dates back to their time with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League where Dubas drafted Timmins in 2014. Timmins reflected on his progress this season with Toronto and is eager to continue under Dubas' guidance. “I think he values my game,” said Timmins. “I'm just excited to prove him right out there.”
Dewar has played parts of four NHL seasons between Toronto and Minnesota Wild from 2021-25. He looks forward to contributing energy and competitiveness to his new team as noted by Dubas: “He can come in and bring a certain life and spirit to the group.”
Both players view this transition as an opportunity for growth alongside seasoned players like Sidney Crosby. Dewar remarked on joining such an established franchise: “It’s exciting... it’s a great opportunity."
Dubas sees potential for both players as they integrate into the team over the coming weeks.
