Sidney Crosby, the Pittsburgh Penguins center, scored his 600th NHL goal on Saturday during a game against the Utah Hockey Club at PPG Paints Arena. At 37 years old, Crosby is the 21st player to achieve this milestone and the second active player after Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.
"It's just another one of those milestones that speaks for itself, I think," said Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan. "He's in elite company now with every milestone that he achieves at this point."
Crosby scored his 600th goal during a power play at 3:11 of the second period. This achievement places him alongside Mario Lemieux as one of only two players to score 600 goals for the Penguins.
In his career spanning 20 NHL seasons, all with Pittsburgh, Crosby has amassed impressive statistics. He is second in Penguins history with 1,617 points and 1,017 assists. His performance continues to be strong with 21 points in 23 games this season.
Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jake Guentzel praised Crosby's consistent performance: "It's just special, what he does to this day."
Crosby has won the Rocket Richard Trophy twice as the NHL goals leader and has been recognized as one of the greatest hockey players of all time. He was named an Officer of the Order of Canada for his contributions to hockey and community service initiatives.
“His perseverance, his resilience, his passion for the game,” Sullivan added about Crosby's playing style. “He's not a one-dimensional player.”
