The Pittsburgh Steelers have acquired linebacker Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers. The trade, which is pending a physical, involves the Steelers sending a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Packers.
Smith is currently in his tenth season and has played in 155 career games, starting 138 of them. His career statistics include 425 tackles, with 265 being solo efforts. Additionally, he has achieved 71 tackles for loss and accumulated 68.5 sacks.
Smith's performance record also includes 155 quarterback hurries, 27 passes defensed, ten forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, and five interceptions.
Drafted by the Washington Commanders as the 38th overall pick in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Smith spent four seasons with them. During his tenure there, he participated in 64 games and recorded 24.5 sacks along with 29 tackles for loss.
In 2019, Smith joined the Packers and played with them for six seasons. While with Green Bay, he appeared in 91 games and secured a total of 44 sacks. Notably, he set personal records during his first year with the Packers by achieving twelve sacks and making seventy-five tackles.
Smith's college football career was at Mississippi State where he received first-team All-SEC honors from league coaches. He also made history by becoming the first player to be named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week three weeks consecutively.
