The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced the acquisition of wide receiver Mike Williams from the New York Jets. The trade, which is contingent on Williams passing a physical examination, involves the Steelers sending a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Jets.
Williams joined the Jets during the 2024 offseason after spending seven years with the Los Angeles Chargers. In his current season with the Jets, he has participated in nine games and started three, recording 12 receptions for 166 yards.
Throughout his eight-year career in the NFL, Williams has played in 97 games and started 65. He has amassed 321 receptions for 4,972 yards and scored 31 touchdowns. Additionally, he has carried the ball ten times for a total of 34 rushing yards and one touchdown.
Drafted by the Chargers as their first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Williams was selected seventh overall. During his tenure with the Chargers over seven seasons, he appeared in 88 games and started 62. His performance included 309 receptions totaling 4,806 yards at an average of 15.6 yards per reception and scoring 31 touchdowns.
In postseason play during 2018, Williams took part in two games where he recorded seven receptions for a total of 110 yards. He achieved two seasons with over a thousand receiving yards while playing for the Chargers; notably in 2019 when he had an impressive average of over twenty yards per reception across forty-nine catches.
Williams reached a personal milestone in his career by scoring eleven touchdowns during the year of 2018—ten receiving and one rushing—and received recognition as AFC Offensive Player of the Week following a standout performance against Kansas City Chiefs that same year.
