A West Mifflin resident has pleaded guilty to a federal escape charge, according to an announcement by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan. Jamiel Green, 27, admitted guilt in front of United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon on October 30, 2024.

The court was informed that Green had been serving the final part of his sentence for federal firearm law violations at a residential reentry center. This facility is intended to help inmates reintegrate into society. Green was allowed to leave temporarily but failed to return as scheduled on November 2, 2023. He remained at large until the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended him several months later.

Judge Bissoon has set the sentencing date for March 6, 2025. The potential penalties include a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will depend on the severity of the offense and Green's prior criminal record under federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is handling the prosecution for this case. The investigation leading to Green's prosecution was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service.
