The Pittsburgh Penguins secured a 2-1 overtime victory against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, showcasing an improved defensive performance. Sidney Crosby emphasized the team's focus on defense, saying, "That's an area we're focused on, and to get rewarded – there's been some games we've given up a lot. This wasn't one of them."

Crosby scored both goals for the Penguins, bringing his point total to five in his last two games following a three-assist night against Minnesota earlier in the week. The team found success with Crosby playing alongside Evgeni Malkin and Rickard Rakell at even strength.

Despite being unable to score early due to strong goaltending from Anaheim's Lukas Dostal, who leads the NHL in save percentage this season, the Penguins maintained their composure. Marcus Pettersson noted that after dominating the first period but conceding a goal late, they decided "enough is enough."

The Penguins tied the game early in the third period through another play from Crosby's line. Erik Karlsson contributed significantly with six shots and 21 attempts overall. He commented on their style of play: "I think we played a puck possession game... when we have the puck, we're going to be the better team for most part of the night."

Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic made crucial saves towards the end of regulation time to keep Pittsburgh competitive. He remarked on his performance: "It's a really good feeling... That's our job at the end of day, is just to make saves."

In overtime, Crosby capitalized on an opportunity and secured victory for Pittsburgh with a skillful goal. Reflecting on his current form after earlier struggles this season, Crosby acknowledged he was finding his rhythm again.

Head Coach Mike Sullivan praised Crosby’s complete effort: “You look at his offensive production at this point; he has a two-goal game tonight... I thought he was just playing game right way.”

The Penguins' record stands at 4-7-1 as they prepare to face Montreal during their homestand.
