CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY: Recreational Facilities Re-open - With Restrictions

Announcement2

Carnegie Mellon University issued the following announcement on Aug. 27.

As Carnegie Mellon University prepares to welcome faculty, staff and students to campus for the fall semester, indoor and outdoor recreational and athletic facilities will re-open with a staggered and phased approach.

As outlined in the Athletic Facilities/Recreation Reopening Plans, outdoor facilities opened on Aug. 24 and indoor facilities will open Aug. 31. Both indoor and outdoor facilities will have set hours and will be monitored by Athletics Department staff when open. All users must have a Carnegie Mellon ID that they'll need to display at specified check-in points at each facility, and that information will be logged for contact tracing purposes. All facility users are expected to have completed the university's daily self-assessment prior to arrival. University Police will monitor outdoor facilities when they are closed.

"We have spent the past few months working on our athletics facility reopening plans, and we are excited to welcome our community members back," said Josh Centor, associate vice president of Student Affairs and director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation. "While there will be differences in how we are able to offer services, we believe our approach provides an infrastructure that will allow our community to pursue their fitness and wellness ambitions in an environment that prioritizes collective health and well-being."

Hand sanitizing stations have been installed throughout athletics facilities and everyone is expected to utilize them upon entry and exit of each facility. Physical distancing protocols and the wearing of facial coverings will be enforced.
