Allegheny Health Network's (AHN) Schools of Nursing are now open for applications from prospective full-time and part-time nursing students. Applications for the full-time registered nurse (RN) programs at West Penn Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh and Citizens School of Nursing in Tarentum are being accepted until May 1, with classes commencing on August 18.
The two schools offer a 22-month curriculum combining classroom learning with clinical experiences led by qualified faculty. They provide small class sizes and personalized learning opportunities. Citizens School of Nursing also offers a part-time RN program, which has seen enrollment grow by 125% from 2024 to 2025. This program spans 32 months with evening and weekend classes.
Pennsylvania is expected to face a shortage of over 20,000 nurses by 2026, according to the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania. Taylor Self, an AHN certified medical assistant enrolled in the part-time program at Citizens, said: “I applied not thinking that this part-time program would make the biggest difference in my life. I can go to school and succeed while working full-time.”
The deadline for the CSON part-time RN program is September 1, with classes starting on January 6, 2026. Both AHN nursing schools reported a 100% pass rate for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) in 2024. Additionally, 98% of graduates from the class of 2023 secured positions in healthcare within a year.
Amy Stoker, PhD, RN, director of the AHN Schools of Nursing stated: “The impressive state board exam scores and exceptional job placement rate of our RN graduates are a powerful testament to the rigorous, comprehensive education and training provided by the AHN Schools of Nursing curriculum.”
West Penn School offers dormitory-style housing on-site while Citizens provides free parking. Financial aid options include federal grants and loans, state grants, scholarships, and private loans.
