The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office and Allegheny Health Network (AHN) have teamed up with West Mifflin Borough and Rankin Borough to offer no-cost medical exams and health services to residents of Mon View Heights Apartments and Palisades Plaza. The initiative will take place on March 13 and 14.
Prompted by poor living conditions affecting tenant health, DA Zappala arranged for AHN’s Primary Care Mobile Clinic to visit Mon View Heights. This location in West Mifflin has about 226 occupied units, while Palisades Plaza in Rankin has 70. The resident population includes people of all ages, with many children.
AHN professionals will provide medical examinations, social worker access, and referrals to physician practices and community services for follow-up care. Services are available regardless of age or insurance coverage.
Care will be administered by the AHN team on a first-come, first-served basis. The mobile clinic will operate behind the Mon View Heights management office on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
“Everyone is entitled to safe and decent housing,” said DA Zappala. “Unfortunately, these properties have proven to be anything but. We want to ensure our people are healthy, and if not, that they have the resources to get them there. It’s also a chance to talk to the residents and hear about what changes they’d like to see in their neighborhood.”
The AHN mobile clinic was launched last spring, providing health screenings in areas across Western Pennsylvania marked by social vulnerability and limited healthcare access. Brother’s Brother Foundation donated the van used for these services.
“At AHN and Highmark Health, responding to communities in need and providing convenient access to high-quality medical care is part of our DNA,” said Amy Crawford-Faucher, MD, chair of AHN Primary Care Institute. “We greatly appreciate the DA’s efforts to help the residents of Mon View Heights and Palisades Plaza and look forward to bringing the services of our mobile clinic to them this week.”
