Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute will conduct its monthly Saturday cancer screening clinic on March 8, 2025, at the AHN Forbes Cancer Institute in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Registration for this event opened on February 12, 2025, and is available to both AHN and non-AHN patients. Appointments can be made by calling 412-359-6665. The clinic welcomes patients with or without insurance.
The screenings offered include breast cancer for ages 40-74, cervical cancer for ages 21-65, colorectal cancer for ages 45-75, head and neck cancers for those aged 18 and older, lung cancer for individuals aged 50-80 with a history of smoking, prostate cancer for ages 45-75, and skin cancer screenings starting at age 18.
March marks Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Recent findings from the American Cancer Society's report indicate an increase in colorectal cancer diagnoses among individuals younger than 65. This trend has led healthcare professionals to advocate for routine screenings to detect early-stage cancers.
"At AHN, we’re seeing firsthand the concerning increase in colorectal cancer among younger patients," said James McCormick, DO, chairperson of the colon and rectal cancer program at AHN. "It is critically important to never ignore anything your body is telling you and get checked at any age."
In the previous year of 2024, AHN conducted a total of 116 colorectal screenings during their Saturday clinics across Western Pennsylvania. Of these screenings, ten required further testing due to abnormal results.
Future screening events are scheduled at Saint Vincent Cancer Institute in Erie on April 5, West Penn Cancer Institute on May 17, and Jefferson Cancer Institute on June 21.
Since its inception in 2014, the AHN Cancer Institute has provided comprehensive one-stop cancer screenings. The demand for such services has resulted in monthly Saturday clinics being held across Western Pennsylvania over the past four years.
For those unable to attend a Saturday clinic session but still interested in comprehensive screenings at Jefferson Hospital or Forbes Hospital can schedule appointments by calling the same number: 412-359-6665.
