Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward is described by his teammate Larry Ogunjobi as "the heartbeat" of the team. Ogunjobi praised Heyward's energy, passion, and work ethic, emphasizing his integral role in the defense.

Heyward expressed pride in being seen as a vital part of the team, stating, "But as a heartbeat, you don't have to see me, you've just got to feel me." Despite being 35 years old and one of the oldest players on the team, Heyward continues to perform at a high level. T.J. Watt noted that Heyward seems to improve with age.

After a challenging previous season due to injury, Heyward has returned stronger in 2024. Minkah Fitzpatrick commended him for maintaining such high performance in his 14th season. His younger brother Connor Heyward also shared admiration for his accomplishments this year.

Despite some days off from practice for rest, Heyward remains focused on preparing for games and contributing significantly on game day. He is motivated by Coach Mike Tomlin's jokes about his age and uses them as fuel to continue performing well.

Heyward is driven by the desire to win a Super Bowl with the Steelers before ending his career. He takes inspiration from the six Super Bowl trophies displayed at their facility and aims to add another one with his name on it.

He signed a new three-year contract with Pittsburgh earlier this season, reinforcing his commitment to remain with one team throughout his career. Fitzpatrick highlighted that staying with one team signifies doing many things right within an organization.

Ultimately, Heyward hopes that when he retires, he will have achieved all his goals and left behind a legacy marked by dedication and success on the field.
