Four hospitals within the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) have been recognized by Healthgrades for their clinical quality and patient experience in 2024 and 2025. The Pittsburgh-based health system, serving western Pennsylvania, achieved significant recognition across various specialties.

Allegheny General Hospital (AGH), AHN's flagship facility, was notably honored for its cardiovascular care and cardiac surgery program. It was named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery in both 2024 and 2025, as well as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care in 2025. AGH also earned the distinction of being the top cardiac surgery hospital in Western Pennsylvania.

"Today’s recognition from Healthgrades signifies our unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality cardiac care," said Stephen Bailey, MD, cardiac surgeon and Chair of AHN Cardiovascular Institute. "Ultimately, this recognition speaks to exceptional patient outcomes and experiences within a leading-edge cardiac surgery program at Allegheny General."

Other AHN facilities received accolades as well. AHN Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills was awarded for Vascular Surgery Excellence in both years and Bariatric Surgery Excellence in 2024. These awards highlight superior outcomes in surgeries such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and weight loss procedures.

AHN Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights earned the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award for both years, recognizing its success in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pneumonia. Additionally, it received the Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award in 2024 for its advanced care in various gastrointestinal surgeries.

AHN Wexford Hospital was acknowledged with the Patient Safety Excellence Award and Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades for 2024. These awards emphasize the hospital's commitment to preventing serious safety events during stays and delivering top-tier patient experiences.

Healthgrades evaluates nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide each year based on patient outcomes from common inpatient procedures using Medicare data among other sources. The Specialty Excellence Awards honor hospitals with superior patient outcomes.

“These evaluations help consumers and patients identify top-performing hospitals across the country that achieve clinical excellence and high patient safety scores,” stated Bethany Casagranda, DO, MBA, chief medical officer at AHN. “We couldn’t be prouder of the clinical teams across this network recognized over the last year – these awards are a testament to their steadfast dedication to innovative medicine, compassionate care delivery and the highest standards of quality.”
