Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute has appointed Dr. Chirag Shah as the new Chair of its Department of Radiation Oncology, effective January 1, 2025. Dr. Shah joins AHN from Cleveland Clinic, bringing a wealth of experience in radiation oncology.
Dr. Shah is recognized for his leadership in clinical care, research, and education within the field. His expertise includes various radiation oncology techniques with a focus on breast cancer, sarcoma, and lymphedema prevention.
At Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Shah held multiple roles including Director of Clinical Research and Director of Breast Radiation Oncology. He was also Co-Director of the Comprehensive Breast Program. His academic contributions include over 200 publications and numerous presentations at conferences worldwide.
In recent years, Dr. Shah was listed among Cleveland Magazine’s Best Doctors for 2023 and 2024 and received the Presidential Award from the American Brachytherapy Society in 2023.
David L. Bartlett, MD, chair of the AHN Cancer Institute stated: “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Shah to AHN Cancer Institute.” He highlighted Dr. Shah's clinical skills and leadership qualities as key assets for leading the department.
Dr. Shah completed his medical education at Northeast Ohio Medical University after earning his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University. His postgraduate training included an internship and residency at William Beaumont Hospital with further positions at Barnes Jewish Hospital and Summa Health Systems.
Dr. Shah expressed enthusiasm about his new role: “I am honored and excited to join the AHN Cancer Institute team,” he said.
