Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has announced the appointment of Bethany Casagranda, DO, MBA, as its new chief medical officer and president of Allegheny Clinic. Her role will be effective from January 1, 2025. Dr. Casagranda will succeed Donald Whiting, MD, who has served as AHN’s CMO since 2019 and will continue his work with the Neuroscience Institute.
Dr. Casagranda has been with AHN since 2013 and became chair of the Imaging Institute in 2017. Under her leadership, the institute saw significant growth in radiologist talent and infrastructure development across several hospitals. She also led efforts to achieve Diagnostic Imaging Centers of Excellence designation for all AHN imaging facilities.
In her new position, Dr. Casagranda will oversee AHN's employed physician organization and hospital medical staffs, which include a network of 2,500 doctors. She is expected to play a key role in advancing AHN’s “Living Health” clinical model in collaboration with Highmark Health.
Jim Benedict, president of AHN, praised Dr. Casagranda's leadership style: “Dr. Casagranda is a talented and effective physician executive... As the chair of imaging, she has a unique perspective on clinical operations that makes her the ideal candidate.”
Tony Farah, MD from Highmark Health highlighted her commitment to high-quality care: “Of all the exceptional qualities that Dr. Casagranda brings... perhaps none is more important than the commitment she has demonstrated to providing high-quality care.”
Dr. Casagranda expressed her enthusiasm for her new role: “It’s the privilege of a lifetime to serve AHN as its next CMO... I look forward to working with all my physician colleagues...”
She holds an undergraduate degree from Washington and Jefferson College and earned her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
