Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has announced that three of its hospitals—Wexford, Jefferson, and West Penn—have received a "High Performing" designation for maternity and perinatal care in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals for Maternity Care ratings. AHN stands as the only health system in western Pennsylvania to achieve this status.

In the latest evaluation by U.S. News & World Report, 817 hospitals submitted maternity data, with just over half being recognized as "high performing." The rankings are based on metrics such as C-section rates in lower-risk patients, early elective delivery rates, newborn complication rates, breastfeeding rates, and adherence to birthing-friendly practices.

Marcia Klein-Patel, MD, PhD, Chair of AHN Women's Institute stated: "We're incredibly proud of the exceptional care provided by AHN's multidisciplinary teams to mothers, birthing people, and their babies." She emphasized that the recognition underscores their commitment to safe and advanced care.

AHN West Penn Hospital is noted for its comprehensive gynecologic and obstetrics care along with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). It is also ranked among the top 50 hospitals nationally for maternity care by U.S. News & World Report.

AHN Jefferson recently celebrated its obstetrics program's 10th anniversary. Meanwhile, AHN Wexford continues to be praised since opening in September 2021 for its complex care facilities and active labor and delivery program.

Allan Klapper, MD, president of AHN Wexford Hospital remarked: “What sets AHN apart from most other health systems is that we deliver on our promise to invest in the health of women and their children.”
