The Penguins Foundation has announced a $100,000 donation to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. This contribution is part of their ongoing support for pediatric cancer programs in the community. The foundation emphasized that their commitment to fighting cancer is continuous and not limited to November.

Yvonne Maher, Executive Director of the Penguins Foundation, stated, “We want this city to thrive, and having a hospital that is of the caliber of UPMC Children's in our community makes us better as an organization and reassures our team both on and off the ice that they have great care for their children right here in Pittsburgh.”

Rachel Petrucelli, President of UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation, expressed gratitude for the support: “We know that the support received from the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation will directly impact the lives of the children and families we serve.”

The donation supports UPMC Children’s ‘This Moment’ campaign focusing on clinical excellence, patient experience, research, and community health. As part of Hockey Fights Cancer programming, events were organized including a visit by 'So Many Angels', where children affected by cancer met with players.

Cindy Himes from the Foundation highlighted these activities: “It’s become part of our Hockey Fights Cancer programming... There are so many good parts to this event.”

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby visited patients at UPMC Children’s Hospital. He said about his visit: “Being able to come here and spend time with kids and their families... it’s amazing to see the strength and just the attitudes of all the kids and their families.”

On November 19th, during a game against Tampa Bay Lightning dedicated to "Hockey Fights Cancer," various initiatives were held to raise awareness and funds. Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk remarked on these efforts: “The NHL has done a great job for a number of years now... It’s for a great cause.”

The Penguins Foundation continues its efforts alongside fundraising activities like auctions and sweepstakes aimed at supporting UPMC Children's ongoing capital campaign.
