Receiver Calvin Austin remains optimistic about the Pittsburgh Steelers' performance despite recent struggles in the red zone. Austin, one of two players to score a touchdown for the Steelers in their last two games, emphasized the importance of focusing on execution and details. "It's just focusing on ourselves and details, small things, execution," said Austin. He acknowledged that inefficiencies often stem from self-inflicted errors but believes these can be corrected.

The Steelers faced challenges in their recent loss to the Cleveland Browns, converting only one of two red-zone opportunities. Against the Ravens, they failed to convert any of their four chances. Austin highlighted the significance of executing assignments effectively, stating, "A lot of times when you see those plays happen, it comes from every guy doing their assignment."

As they prepare to face the Cincinnati Bengals, Austin is aware of their opponent's strong pass rush but maintains confidence in his team's ability to overcome challenges through proper execution.

Linebacker Alex Highsmith hopes to return from an ankle injury for Sunday's game against Cincinnati but awaits confirmation on his status later this week. Highsmith expressed eagerness to participate in the AFC North battle while ensuring he can perform confidently.

Coach Mike Tomlin continues to support offensive tackle Broderick Jones amid criticism over penalties. Tomlin praised Jones's potential and resilience: "He's a young guy... I have no intentions of blinking." Jones appreciates Tomlin's confidence in him and aims to improve with each game.

The Steelers' inconsistency against teams with losing records has been noted by defensive captain Cam Heyward. He pointed out crucial moments where missed opportunities led to losses and emphasized the need for improvement in critical situations. "We just didn't make enough of those critical plays in those moments," Heyward said.

The upcoming match against Cincinnati poses another challenge with key players like wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase and quarterback Joe Burrow posing threats. Heyward anticipates a close contest decided by pivotal plays: "The team that dominates that and gets off the field or scores in those moments is going to win that game."

In other news, linebacker Julius Welschof has been signed to the practice squad after being originally signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft.
