The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward Philip Tomasino from the Nashville Predators. The exchange involved a 2027 fourth-round draft pick, which was originally held by the New York Rangers. This transaction was confirmed by Kyle Dubas, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager of the Penguins.
Tomasino is expected to arrive in Pittsburgh today with hopes of joining practice on Tuesday. He is under contract through the end of the 2024-25 season with an average annual value of $825,000 at the NHL level.
Over the past five seasons, Tomasino has been part of the Predators organization. His time was divided between playing for Nashville and their American Hockey League affiliates, Milwaukee Admirals and Chicago Wolves. In his NHL career spanning 159 games, he has accumulated 23 goals, 48 assists, totaling 71 points. In addition to his NHL experience, Tomasino has played 89 AHL games where he scored 36 goals and made 46 assists.
His most notable NHL season occurred during his rookie year in 2021-22 with Nashville when he achieved personal bests with 11 goals, 21 assists, and a total of 32 points over 76 games.
Before turning professional, Tomasino played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League for Niagara IceDogs and Oshawa Generals from 2017 to 2020. During this period, he played in 190 junior games recording a total of 79 goals and making 117 assists.
A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Tomasino represented Team Canada at international competitions including the World Under-18 Championship in 2019 and the World Junior Championship in 2021 where he won a silver medal.
Tomasino entered the NHL as a first-round draft pick (24th overall) by Nashville in the year 2019.
