Pittsburgh Review

The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to honor active-duty service members and veterans at their upcoming game against the Baltimore Ravens at Acrisure Stadium. This event is part of the annual NFL initiative, Salute to Service, which recognizes military personnel and their families.

The Steelers have collaborated with the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) for this year's Salute to Service initiatives. "The Steelers are very much committed to the military and wanted to honor Special Operations," said Allie Weiskopf, Director of Public Affairs for SOCOM. She emphasized the team's dedication to involving Special Ops in the event and ensuring a memorable experience for service members attending the game.

Pre-game activities will include SOCOM displays on Art Rooney Avenue featuring military equipment such as a helicopter, an Army Robot Dog, special operations gear, and more. The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps will also have tents showcasing their gear and providing information about each branch.

A highlight of the game will be a Para-Commando Parachute team jumping into the stadium pregame. Major Ashley Selfridge will deliver the game ball to General Bryan Fenton, Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command. "We are happy to do this with the Steelers because we're just so grateful that the Steelers want to honor them and highlight service," Weiskopf stated.

During player introductions, active SOCOM members will lead players onto the field carrying flags representing their respective branches alongside individuals carrying American and POW Flags. These individuals will be honored during the game on the Jumbotron.

Lt. Col. Chad M. Gontkovic from Johnstown, Pa., will perform the National Anthem while General Fenton and Command Sergeant Major Shane Shorter serve as honorary co-captains for the coin toss.

Additional features include a flyover by two A-10 Warthogs from Davis-Monthan AFB's Demo Team and recognition of Retired United States Navy Seal James Hatch as U.S. Steel Salute to Heroes recipient.

Former Steelers offensive lineman Jon Kolb will lead The Terrible Towel Twirl along with active SOCOM members. 'Renegade' will feature military highlights interwoven with SOCOM assistance during its performance.

Other elements include honoring all active duty and veteran staff members of Acrisure Stadium during gameplay, pregame presentations at POW/MIA Chair with local leaders joining military representatives for remembrance ceremonies.

Punter Corliss Waitman hosted a group from TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) at Acrisure Stadium on Friday where they were surprised with banners honoring fallen heroes that would hang outside today's game venue entrance.

Country music star Charles Esten is scheduled for halftime performance saluting Rocky Bleier's career through CreatiVets non-profit organization song titled "The Names That You Don't Know (The Ballad of Rocky Bleier)."
