The Pittsburgh Steelers have made adjustments to their roster ahead of the upcoming game against the Baltimore Ravens. Cornerback C.J. Henderson has been placed on the Reserve/Injured List due to a neck injury sustained during practice, which caused him to miss Thursday and Friday sessions. As a result, he was already ruled out for the game.
In response, the Steelers have signed running back Jonathan Ward from the practice squad to fill Henderson's spot on the 53-man roster. Ward has previously spent time both on the practice squad and active roster this season, recording five carries for 22 yards over four games.
Ward's journey with the Steelers began when he participated in their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis and subsequently earned a contract. Over his five-season NFL career, Ward has played in 47 games, achieving an average of 4.1 yards per carry with 91 rushing yards and one touchdown reception.
Initially entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals after the 2020 NFL Draft, Ward spent more than two seasons there before joining the Tennessee Titans in 2022. He continued with them through 2023 before transitioning to Pittsburgh.
Henderson joined Pittsburgh's main roster from their practice squad on October 22 but remained inactive for recent matchups against teams like the Giants and Commanders. Originally drafted by Jacksonville Jaguars as a first-round pick in 2020, Henderson has appeared in 49 games throughout his career, starting in 32 of them.
