A Pittsburgh resident, Lafon Ellis, has admitted guilt in a federal court to charges of possessing contraband while incarcerated. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan on November 4, 2024.

Ellis, aged 30, entered his guilty plea to two counts before United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon. The court was informed that Ellis had controlled substances in his possession on two occasions: May 3 and December 10 of the previous year, while he was held at Allegheny County Jail as a federal inmate.

Judge Bissoon has set the sentencing date for February 20, 2025. According to legal provisions, Ellis faces a potential maximum sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment and fines reaching $500,000. However, the actual sentence will be determined based on the severity of the offenses and Ellis's prior criminal record under federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway. The investigation leading to these charges was carried out by the U.S. Marshals Service with support from Allegheny County Police.
