With Russell Wilson having fully participated in practice over the past week, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated on Tuesday that Wilson is being considered for the starting quarterback position against the New York Jets at Acrisure Stadium this Sunday night. Tomlin has not yet decided who will start for the Steelers, who currently hold a 4-2 record. The Jets have a 2-4 record.

Tomlin commented on Wilson's progress after returning to full practice following a calf injury that kept him out for two weeks. "We were scheduled for Russ to work in totality, he did that over the course of the week, I got comfortable with his ability to display his health," said Tomlin. He added that Wilson had knocked some rust off during practice and is now under consideration for this week's game.

Justin Fields has started all six games for the Steelers this season, achieving a completion rate of over 66 percent with 1,106 passing yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. Last Sunday against the Raiders, Fields completed 14 of 24 passes for 145 yards and rushed for an additional 59 yards with two touchdowns.

Tomlin praised Fields' performance but noted that both quarterbacks might play on Sunday: "Justin has been really good... but not to be confused with great," said Tomlin. He also acknowledged Wilson's veteran experience and capability despite not having Fields' ad-libbing abilities.

Wilson was acquired as part of an offseason overhaul of the Steelers' quarterback lineup. A nine-time Pro Bowl player and Super Bowl winner, he was signed after being released by the Broncos due to budget cuts. Meanwhile, Fields was traded from the Chicago Bears shortly afterward.

Injury updates include linebacker Nick Herbig (hamstring) and center Zach Frazier (ankle) being ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets. This marks Herbig's second consecutive missed game; Frazier sustained his injury during last week's win over the Raiders but is considered "week-to-week."

On special teams news, linebacker Jeremiah Moon blocked a punt against the Raiders—following Isaiahh Loudermilk’s field goal block against Dallas—highlighting Pittsburgh's continued success in blocking kicks.

Additionally, wide receiver Davante Adams has been traded to the Jets from Las Vegas. He reunites with quarterback Aaron Rodgers after their time together in Green Bay.
