Pittsburgh Review

The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to begin their 2024-25 NHL season with a home game against the New York Rangers at PPG Paints Arena. The match marks the 300th regular-season meeting between these two teams. Doors will open at 6:00 PM, and the puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30 PM. Fans can watch the game on TNT and Max or listen on 105.9 the X and through the Penguins app.

This opening game features several notable events and milestones for both teams. The Rangers hold an all-time record of 41-42-13-1 in season openers, including three wins in their last five games. For Pittsburgh, this game represents a chance to continue their positive trend in home openers, where they have achieved a record of 30-16-10.

Several players are expected to make their debuts for Pittsburgh tonight, including Anthony Beauvillier, Cody Glass, Kevin Hayes, Rutger McGroarty, Matt Grzelcyk, and Joel Blomqvist. Both McGroarty and Blomqvist are also poised to make their first appearances in an NHL game.

Penguins' head coach Mike Sullivan begins his tenth season with the team, making him one of the longest-tenured coaches currently active in the league. On individual player achievements, Sidney Crosby is set to become only the eleventh player in NHL history to spend two decades with one team when he takes to the ice tonight.
