Following the Pittsburgh Steelers' recent loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Coach Mike Tomlin addressed various aspects of the game and team dynamics in a media session. Tomlin discussed missed opportunities for takeaways, specifically focusing on fumble recovery techniques. He emphasized that while there is a technical component, "it's an intensity in-play and a hustler's mentality regarding finish that best positions you to finish those things."

Tomlin also shared his thoughts on Justin Fields' accountability following a botched snap, saying it was not unusual given Fields' experience with similar responsibilities in Chicago. "He ascended very fast in this game as a professional," said Tomlin.

The coach reflected on strategic decisions during the game against the Colts, such as going for it on fourth-and-1 and challenging plays early on. He acknowledged these moves were attempts to change the game's momentum, noting that "sometimes it can come from a strategic component of the game – coaching decisions, aggression."

Tomlin explained his philosophy on running plays against single-high defenses by targeting gaps occupied by defensive backs rather than those filled by linemen or linebackers. He believes this approach can result in more favorable outcomes for offensive plays.

Addressing crowd noise's impact on running games in hostile environments, Tomlin mentioned that using silent counts can disrupt timing and coordination due to delayed reactions from players further away from the ball.

When evaluating Najee Harris' performance so far this season, Tomlin expressed satisfaction with Harris' progress but noted there is still room for growth: "I've been pleased with the trajectory of his game."

Discussing holding penalties in football, Tomlin defined them as involving "material restriction" which officials are trained to recognize. He also touched upon how teams manage in-game injuries differently compared to week-long preparations.

Lastly, Tomlin talked about defensive strategies employed by long-time coordinators like Dick LeBeau and Mike Zimmer. Zimmer is credited with popularizing double-A-gap pressures which aim to limit offensive options during possession downs.
