Kyle Allen, quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been named the Steelers Digest Player of the Week following his performance in the preseason opener against the Houston Texans. The game, held at Acrisure Stadium on Friday night, ended in a 20-12 loss for the Steelers.
Allen's performance included completing 17 of 23 passes (73.9 percent) for 193 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, resulting in a rating of 95.0. One of his incompletions was a spike to stop the clock, and his interception occurred in the final seconds as he attempted to force the ball downfield with no timeouts remaining and needing both a touchdown and a two-point conversion to tie the game.
Russell Wilson's calf injury during conditioning tests provided more on-field repetitions for both Justin Fields and Kyle Allen during early training camp sessions. This additional exposure appeared beneficial for Allen in this preseason match.
Other players considered for Steelers Digest Player of the Week included nose tackle Montravius Adams, who recorded a sack and deflected a pass on third-and-eight; defensive end DeMarvin Leal, who made three tackles, secured a sack, and tipped a pass nearly intercepted by Ryan Watts; outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon, who had five tackles and one sack; running back Daijun Edwards, who rushed three times for 28 yards (9.3 average) and scored a one-yard touchdown; and running back Jonathan Ward, who had six carries for 26 yards (4.3 average) along with one special teams tackle.
