The Hall of Honor Museum is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Super Bowl IX victory and the notable 1974 NFL Draft, which produced five future Hall of Famers. The museum has introduced an interactive display wall, unveiled before the Steelers-Texans game, featuring a large Super Bowl team photo and a bench for visitors to take photos.

"We're excited to open our 50th Anniversary exhibit of the 1974 season," said Steelers President Art Rooney II. "This room is dedicated to the whole decade of the '70s. But the room that we have dedicated just for this year is a little more highlights of the '74 season itself, which was obviously our first Super Bowl season."

Rooney reflected on the challenges and triumphs of that season: "It was a remarkable season. Started out that we had the players strike, so our veteran players weren't even in training camp that year. Then Joe Gilliam wound up being the starting quarterback to start the season. Terry Bradshaw didn't start until a few games into the season. The defense was so dominant, a consistent part of the team."

An adjoining wall in the museum highlights news, notes, quotes, and statistics from 1974 and features Hall of Famers Jack Lambert, Donnie Shell, John Stallworth, Lynn Swann, and Mike Webster.

Hall of Fame linebacker Jack Ham attended the unveiling: "First I can't believe it's been 50 years since that first Super Bowl we were able to win," said Ham. He praised Lambert's impact as a rookie: "He was one of the smartest guys I was around on the football field."

A quote from Hall of Famer Joe Greene is also featured in the display: "There is something that champions have that you can only get by getting kicked around until you say that you don't want to be kicked around anymore," Greene's quote reads.

Visitors can view and photograph the Super Bowl IX Lombardi Trophy as part of their experience.

The Steelers will celebrate Alumni Weekend when they host the New York Jets on Sunday, Oct. 20. The weekend will honor their Super Bowl IX team with an Alumni Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 19 benefiting UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program.

The Steelers Hall of Honor Museum is located above Acrisure Stadium’s Pro Shop and operates Thursday-Monday from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., excluding University of Pittsburgh home games. Admission fees support various causes including Art Rooney Scholarship Fund.
