Allegheny Campus Child Development Center issued the following announcement on Dec. 1.

The Community College of Allegheny County will hold a “Drive-Thru Kindness Tour” event sponsored by Unpack U at CCAC’s South Campus on Friday, Dec. 3, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is the first of its kind for the college and will be hosted by CCAC’s Rainbow Alliance, a student club dedicated to providing an engaging community for the college’s LGBTQIA+ students and their allies.

“The Drive-Thru Kindness Tour is an event curated by students, for students,” said CCAC student and Rainbow Alliance member Kayden Nock. “The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on them in some way, shape or form. We wanted to bring people together after almost two years of isolation, while being within the parameters set by the college, the Allegheny County Health Department and the CDC.”

Rainbow Alliance members pitched the idea for the tour to Unpack U, a Pittsburgh organization that encourages college students to find joy in their lives in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unpack U awarded the students a $3,082 grant toward the tour, which will help to address the growing need for mental health initiatives during the ongoing pandemic.

In addition to Unpack U’s contributions, Target and Fresh Thyme have donated resources for students. Community organizations that will attend the event include The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Resolve Crisis Services, Allegheny County Human Services, and Allies for Health and Wellbeing. The event will also include a hot dinner and a drive-in concert.

The Drive-Thru Kindness Tour will take place in the G lot of CCAC’s South Campus. Students, faculty and staff who wish to receive free food and access to resources should have their CCAC ID with them.
