CCAC to offer free introductory Court Reporting course in November

Kids park 22

Allegheny Campus Child Development Center issued the following announcement on Oct. 6.

The Community College of Allegheny County is offering Project Steno’s Basic Training—a free introductory Court Reporting course where students learn the basics of stenography and gain insight into this well-paying profession. The virtual boot camp will comprise six two-hour sessions. Project Steno’s Basic Training introduces candidates to the many career options available to today’s court reporting and captioning professionals. It is a hands-on opportunity to learn the basics of stenographic theory in a virtual classroom before entering a two-year training program.

CCAC has been training professional court reporters for more than 50 years. In addition to transcribing legal proceedings for courts and legislatures, court reporters—also known as captioners and stenographers—caption major sporting events and other broadcast television shows for persons who are hard of hearing. Court reporting and broadcast captioning careers are lucrative, flexible and in demand, and graduates enjoy 100% job placement.

The virtual boot camp session dates and times are Saturdays, Nov. 6, 13 and 20, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Mondays, Nov. 1, 8 and 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. All materials (textbook and steno machine) will be provided at no charge.*

Space is limited. To register, go to ProjectSteno.org/Students. For more information, contact Mary Beth Johnson at mjohnson@ccac.edu or 412.916.8787.

*Machines are available based on current inventory. Shipping charges will apply.
