Alumni Bring Home Four Prime Time Emmy Awards

Genbusiness002

Carnegie Mellon University issued the following announcement on Sept. 20.

It was a trophy night for several Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama alumni during the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards/Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The winners were announced at a two-evening ceremony Sept. 11 and 12. The remainder of the awards were presented during a prime time special Sunday evening, Sept. 19, on CBS.

During that broadcast, the ensemble cast of "Hamilton" received an Emmy, which was accepted by Renee Elise Goldsberry, who originated the role of Angelica Schuyler. She was joined onstage by cast members, including fellow CMU alumnus Leslie Odom, Jr. Goldsberry and Odom won Tony and Grammy Awards for their work on "Hamilton."

All of CMU's 2021 Emmy Award winners work behind the scenes in technical roles; two are production designers, one is an art director and one is a costume designer.

"We couldn’t be more proud of all our alumni who go on to do great things in their chosen fields," said interim head of the School of Drama Anne Mundell.
