The End of the Chromosome and the Interface of Medicine
Telomeres are DNA and protein caps on the ends of linear chromosomes. They serve and essential function in genome stability by blocking the DNA damage response and solving the end-replication problem. Defects in telomere maintenance cause a unique spectrum of diseases in humans and remain an active area of research.
