Penguins trade for Timmins and Dewar from Maple Leafs

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the acquisition of defenseman Conor Timmins and forward Connor Dewar from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The trade involves a 2025 fifth-round draft pick going to Toronto, as confirmed by Kyle Dubas, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager for the Penguins.

Conor Timmins is contracted through the 2024-25 season with an average annual value of $1.1 million. Throughout this season with the Maple Leafs, he has played 51 games, scoring two goals and six assists. Timmins, who stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 213 pounds, is in his sixth NHL season since debuting in 2019. His career includes stints with the Colorado Avalanche and Arizona Coyotes before joining Toronto. Over 142 NHL games, he has accumulated five goals and 34 assists.

In addition to his NHL experience, Timmins has spent time in the American Hockey League (AHL) with teams such as the Colorado Eagles and Tucson Roadrunners. In international play, he represented Canada at the 2018 World Junior Championship where he contributed to winning gold and was noted as one of Canada's top players.

Connor Dewar is also signed through the 2024-25 season with an average annual value of $1.18 million. This season, Dewar has played for both the Maple Leafs and their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. With Toronto's NHL team, he recorded three assists over 31 games while adding a goal and an assist in one game for the Marlies.

Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 192 pounds, Dewar has been part of four NHL seasons between Toronto and Minnesota Wild since entering professional hockey in 2021. He holds a record of 19 goals and 27 assists across his NHL career comprising 221 games. In AHL play with Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies, Dewar amassed a total of 61 points over four seasons.

Dewar was initially drafted by Minnesota in the third round (92nd overall) during the 2018 NHL Draft.
