The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced a trade with the Nashville Predators, acquiring defenseman Luke Schenn and forward Tommy Novak. In return, the Penguins will send Michael Bunting and a 2026 fourth-round draft pick to Nashville. The announcement was made by Kyle Dubas, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager for the Penguins.
Luke Schenn, aged 35, is under contract through the 2025-26 season with an average annual value of $2.75 million. Tommy Novak, who is 27 years old, has a contract extending through the 2026-27 season with an average annual value of $3.5 million.
Schenn brings significant experience to the Penguins' lineup. He has played in 61 games for Nashville this season, recording one goal and four assists. Over his 17-season NHL career, Schenn has appeared in 1,057 games across several teams including Toronto and Tampa Bay, accumulating a total of 203 points (44 goals and 159 assists). Notably, he won two Stanley Cups with Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021.
Tommy Novak has spent his entire four-year NHL career with Nashville before this trade. This season he has played in 52 games, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists for a total of 22 points. His contributions placed him fifth in goals scored on the team this season.
The trade leaves Pittsburgh with substantial draft capital over the next three NHL drafts: they hold four first-round selections among their total of 27 picks.
