Evgeni Malkin is set to return for Saturday's game against Washington after recovering from a lower-body injury. The Pittsburgh Penguins forward missed six games but used the break to recover fully. "Ready to play, for sure," Malkin stated, emphasizing his eagerness to contribute in the remaining 25 games of the season.

Malkin was injured on January 25 during a collision with Chandler Stephenson of the Seattle Kraken. Despite initial concerns due to his history with knee injuries, an MRI revealed a less severe prognosis. "I breathe better after," Malkin expressed relief about the diagnosis.

During his recovery, Malkin trained in Miami and spent time with family and friends, including Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin is close to breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record. "He wants to just enjoy it," said Malkin about Ovechkin's approach.

The discussion also touched on Sidney Crosby, who recently played for Canada in an international tournament despite missing Pittsburgh's last two games. "First star, first game, it's amazing," Malkin praised Crosby's performance.

Reflecting on his own season, where he has nine goals and 25 points in 47 games, Malkin acknowledged inconsistencies but remained hopeful for improvement. "Everything can change quick," he noted regarding both personal and team performance.

Bryan Rust is also expected to return from injury for Saturday’s game. “I feel good out there,” Rust confirmed.
