Lamar Jackson, a standout in the NFL, faced his ongoing challenge against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Despite his impressive record against other teams, Jackson's performance against the Steelers remains a struggle. The Steelers secured an 18-16 victory over the Baltimore Ravens at Acrisure Stadium, bringing Jackson's record to 1-4 against them.
Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward acknowledged Jackson's talent but emphasized the strength of their own team: "Lamar is a great talent. But we've got great players over here, too." The defense limited Jackson to a passer rating of 66.1 and just 16 completions out of 33 attempts.
The game was marked by significant defensive plays from the Steelers. Linebacker Nick Herbig stripped Derrick Henry early in the game, while Patrick Queen forced and recovered a fumble from Isaiah Likely. Rookie linebacker Payton Wilson also intercepted Justice Hill in the fourth quarter.
Linebacker Elandon Roberts noted that everyone did their job without relying on superhero plays: "There were no superhero plays. It was more so, if you do your job, you're going to fall in the right spot."
Despite offensive struggles inside the red zone, where they settled for six field goals instead of touchdowns, Russell Wilson managed key passes late in the game to secure control for Pittsburgh.
Jackson reflected on missed opportunities: "I can't call it. I feel like we were taking strides in the right direction and then something would happen."
Chris Boswell made all six field goal attempts for Pittsburgh, contributing significantly to their win with kicks ranging from 50 to 57 yards.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin successfully motivated his team for this divisional matchup: "For us, if we want to be the No. 1 defense... it's not just one week and you take a week off."
Baltimore's adjustments included moving safety Kyle Hamilton and activating Tre'Davious White; however, these changes were not enough to overcome Pittsburgh’s strategy.
Looking ahead with an 8-2 record now secured by this victory over Baltimore (7-4), Heyward stated: "We understand how critical these AFC North games are."
