The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to face the Detroit Red Wings in a rescheduled game on September 30. The puck will drop at 7:00 PM, and fans can watch the game on the Penguins' website or listen via the Penguins app and 105.9 The X.

Josh Getzoff returns as the play-by-play announcer for SportsNet Pittsburgh, joined by color commentators Colby Armstrong, Mike Rupp, and Phil Bourque. Hailey Hunter will serve as rinkside reporter. All seven preseason games will be broadcasted on 105.9 The X, with Joe Brand handling play-by-play duties alongside Bourque.

This summer, David Quinn was added to Head Coach Mike Sullivan’s staff as an assistant coach overseeing defensemen. Quinn brings over 30 years of coaching experience and has served as head coach for both the San Jose Sharks and New York Rangers.

The Penguins selected six players in the 2024 NHL Draft held in Las Vegas: Harrison Brunicke (44th overall), Tanner Howe (46th overall), Chase Pietila (111th overall), Joona Vaisanen (175th overall), Mac Swanson (207th overall), and Finn Harding (223rd overall). Brunicke has played three seasons with Kamloops Blazers, recording 21 points last season. Howe has been captain of Regina Pats and scored 77 points last season.

Pittsburgh's prospects won all their games at the Buffalo Prospects Challenge this year. They secured victories against Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, and Buffalo Sabres with standout performances from Tristan Broz and Atley Calvert.

On September 16, Captain Sidney Crosby signed a two-year contract extension worth $8.7 million per year through the 2026-27 season. Crosby holds several franchise records including games played and even-strength goals.

Head Coach Mike Sullivan was named head coach of Team USA for both the Four Nations Face-Off in February 2025 and the United States Men’s Olympic Hockey Team for the 2026 Winter Olympics. David Quinn will assist him during these events.

Sullivan has previously represented Team USA in various coaching capacities including at the Olympics and World Championships. He joins Herb Brooks and Dan Bylsma as U.S. Olympic head coaches with connections to Pittsburgh.

Sullivan's career record includes over 400 wins with Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins, placing him among notable American-born head coaches like John Tortorella and Peter Laviolette.
