On Monday, August 26, Keeanu Benton reflected on his progression as he prepares for his second year in the NFL. Although the regular season opener is not until September 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, Benton already notices significant improvements in his game, particularly in his understanding of the defense.

"Just me knowing the defense a lot better," Benton said. "And knowing what's coming my way offensive-wise. Just not being nervous doing anything, trying moves out there. Knowing the defense helps a lot. It just kind of knocks out that thinking about what to do part and just going out there and doing it."

Benton attributes his increased comfort level to an active offseason focused on enhancing his defensive skills. He also emphasized the importance of understanding NFL routines and managing his physical needs throughout the week.

"It helps to get your schedule down, what you like to do before a game, what you like to do the week leading up to a game," Benton noted. "Last year was kind of a test run on how I like to do things and how I feel after doing certain things. This year is just better progressing that schedule."

Meanwhile, Van Jefferson joined the Steelers this offseason with a clear objective: earning trust from coaches and teammates.

"My first objective coming out here was just to earn the trust of my coaches, earn the trust of my teammates," Jefferson stated. "Without that, you don't have anything."

Jefferson's career includes stints with the Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta Falcons before joining Pittsburgh. Over four seasons, he has accumulated 113 receptions for 1,600 yards and 10 touchdowns.

One area Jefferson focused on since arriving in Pittsburgh is attention to detail, something emphasized by receivers coach Zach Azzanni.

"It's just the details," Jefferson explained. "Coach Azzanni really harps on me about the details... You want that in a coach."

In preparation for reducing their roster to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon, August 27, at 4 p.m., the Steelers released eight players: offensive lineman Tyler Beach, receiver Jacob Copeland, running back Daijun Edwards, offensive lineman Devery Hamilton, receiver T.J. Luther; defensive lineman Marquiss Spencer; linebacker Kyahva Tezino; and defensive back Kiondre Thomas.

Second-round center Zach Frazier started his second consecutive game during Saturday's preseason loss at Detroit. Veteran guard Isaac Seumalo expressed confidence in Frazier’s readiness for responsibility.

"Yeah, he's been great," Seumalo remarked. "Trial by fire... but I think he's built for all that."

Offensive line coach Pat Meyer also sees promise in Frazier due to his work ethic and approach towards learning from veteran players.

"A lot of things—work ethic, his demeanor... Now it's just the way he studies the game," Meyer commented.
