Doug Mastriano, the Republican nominee for Pennsylvania governor, has appointed Jenna Ellis as senior legal advisor to his campaign, according to a press release.
“Jenna Ellis was the first to endorse us and was a champion for our campaign during the primary election," Mastriano said in a statement. "The talent, experience and legal expertise Jenna brings will be an important factor in helping us defeat Josh Shapiro and the extreme Democrat agenda in November.”
Ellis previously worked as an attorney for former President Donald Trump, The Hill reported. Trump endorsed Mastriano before the primary election, stating "There is no one in Pennsylvania who has done more, or fought harder, for election integrity than State Sen. Doug Mastriano," the story reported.
In a statement, Ellis called the race "the most important" in the country.
"As governor, Doug Mastriano will reinstate personal and economic freedom in Pennsylvania, and he'll restore integrity to our elections," she said. "I'm honored to do whatever I can to help him make that happen."
Mastriano is a retired U.S. Army Colonel who currently serves as the state senator for Pennsylvania’s 33rd District. He holds four master's degrees: in strategy, strategic intelligence, military operations and airpower, according to his senate biography. He also holds a Ph.D. in history. He has been featured on multiple national radio programs, as well as Tucker Carlson, C-Span and Fox Business with Stuart Varney.
Mastriano beat out eight other candidates to win the Republican nomination for governor in May, and will face off against Democrat nominee Josh Shapiro in the general election, AP reported. Mastriano secured Trump's endorsement and Shapiro has said that if Mastriano becomes governor, “it’s a win for what Donald Trump stands for,” AP reported.
