CCAC to host inaugural Community College Diversity Institute for college diversity leaders

Allegheny Campus Child Development Center issued the following announcement on Aug. 5.

The Community College of Allegheny County will host “Advancing Diversity at Community Colleges: Constructing a CDO Playbook” on September 22–24. The virtual diversity experience is designed specifically for Chief Diversity Officers (CDOs) at the nation’s community colleges. Convener of the virtual institute will be Coopwood Diversity Leadership & Education Universal (Coop Di Leu).

Headlining the opening plenary session “Diversity and Social Justice” will be author, professor and anti-racist activist Ibram X. Kendi. Director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research, Kendi is one of the nation’s most prolific and accomplished young professors of race, writing for and speaking to both scholarly and general audiences.

The institute will also feature Dr. Quintin Bullock, president, CCAC; Dr. Ken Coopwood, CEO, Coop Di Leu, LLC; Dr. Kevin Christian, director of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity, American Association of Community Colleges; and Dr. William B. Harvey, rector of Danubius University, Galati, Romania, and Coop Di Leu strategic advisor.

Speaker of the “Advancing Diversity for Special Student Populations” session will be Dr. Angela Long, director of Strategic Planning, Tallahassee Community College. Keynote speaker of the “Advancing Diversity Leadership” session will be Dr. Angelica Perez-Johnston, chief officer of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, CCAC. Speaker of the closing plenary session “The Role of the CDO and the College President” will be Dr. DeRionne Pollard, president, Nevada State College.
